Delilah's Meanderings

A thunderstorm rolled through this morning while we were anchored at Panther Key. Some rain and wind, but Delilah fared well. The anchor held and her mast was not hit by lightening thankfully.

After breakfast we pulled up the anchor and motored south and then east through Indian Key Pass to Everglades City. After the storm it was calm which made for a quiet 3 hour trip. We saw a lot of wild life, including several dolphin. We also saw a flock of White Pelicans which are larger and more rare than the Brown Pelican. We passed several sight seeing boats coming out of Everglades.

We successfully tied up to the Rod and Gun Club dock which is very long and claims to hold 20 boats. It took a little while to sort out the dock lines to allow the boat to rise and fall with the tide. We are the only boat tied up at the time of this posting. The Barron River that runs through Everglades City is lined with docks, almost non stop. The water way is pretty busy with the air boats, sight seeing boats, crab boats and personal boats. Everglades City is a small "old time" Florida town with a lot of history. The Rod and Gun Club is very old and the interior looks like a museum.

After being anchored out for a several days a shower was priority one. We walked about a mile to Camellia Street Grill for supper. Kim had a crab cake and I had fried oysters. Then we shared a slice of peanut butter pie for dessert. It was delicious, a little pricey, but worth every cent.

Once the sun started to set the mosquitoes drove us quickly inside the boat. We paid for two days on the dock. The Admiral wants to try every restaurant in this little town! :)
