An update on this Boundless Adventure
19 November 2015
Currently we are in Savanah, Georgia at Thunderbolt Marine. Not quite the Bahamas, but we are getting there.
Our detour started with a problem with the sail drive in our port engine on the first day of our passage. Basically, it failed. We rerouted on the inside of the gulf stream at Cape Hatteras and continued down the coast until we came to Thunderbolt which has a lift wide enough to take Boundless out of the water for this maintenance. Alex found us the part in MI and sent it to us next day so when we pulled in at 10 this morning, it also had arrived. Now we are waiting for the mechanics to finish so we can continue on our way.
We have so many highlights from the trip! Two of the biggest are record breaking speed of 19.8 knots and sailing 245 miles in a 24 hour period. Others include dolphins, a lot of wind (20-30 knots), big seas (8-10 feet), good food, seasickness (YUCK!!), countless stars, beautiful sunrises and sunsets (depending which watch you are on), breaking and fixing things, trying to sleep on a bed that is constantly moving, and doing the sailing shuffle across the cabin trying not to fall over. We hope to be out of here tomorrow with only 500 miles yet to the Bahamas.
