After several delays due to weather and other circumstances beyond our control, we are finally crossing the Gulf and heading down the west coast of Florida. We came over to Dog Island today from Apalachicola, and early tomorrow we'll head out early, hopefully with 10-15 kts. out of the east and 2-3' seas. We'll be staying offshore at least as far south as Clearwater, and perhaps farther if the weather is favorable. Sailing around the clock is challenging, and we are still very inexperienced at it, so there's a bit of anxiety, more on my part than the captain's.
Several things can make it easier, especially when it come to meals. Tonight I made a pot of really delicious black eyed pea soup with smoked chicken. Sometimes cooking underway is not very comfortable, so having things that are quickly prepared is a must. This leftover soup will come in handy. Salty snacks and ginger ale are also staples for me since I've been known to get seasick.
It's calm here on anchor tonight, temp is cool, and the moon on the water is stunning. Going to read a bit and try to get a good night's sleep.
