A Rocking and Rolling Anchorage
28 September 2014 | Woodwark Bay
Sunny, 26 degrees
"Pacific Princess" owned by Peter and Julie was built in 1958 and is a classic, and very pretty, motor cruiser.
We woke on a millpond this morning with the sun shining in very pretty Macona Inlet. None of the other boats seemed to be in any hurry to leave and we again enjoyed breakfast in the cockpit while enjoying the view.
Around 10.30am we stirred ourselves into action, though Louise was feeling still a little sore from the midge bites. Louise piloted us out of the anchorage, with another two boats astern, following her course. Once out into Whitsunday Passage we raised the sails, determined our course and killed the motor.
It was a pleasant sail across in 15 knot winds coming across the port bow. Breezly seemed to revel in the conditions and with the auto pilot doing the steering Louise snoozed in the shade, taking care to stay out of the sun.
By 2.00pm we were entering Woodwark Bay and we dropped anchor near Peter and Julie's boat, Pacific Princess. After a chat on the VHF it was decided we would go to them and I would take any new movies I had. Louise and I had some lunch then took the dinghy over and we enjoyed a couple of hours on Pacific Princess.
Back on Breezly Louise cooked a fried rice meal for dinner and we settled in to the rocking and rolling. There was a swell coming in from the north east, straight into the bay, and the wind was blowing harder than I expected it would. Anyway, we've had worse!
Today we are going the short distance into Airlie Beach for a couple of days then plan to head south. I probably won't pot for a few days but will check for comments etc.
