KUATA, WAYA, and NAVITI - Into the village for Sevusevu

Leaving Monuriki, we sailed up to Kuata , the most southern of the Yasawa Islands, in western Fiji. Kuata provided a quiet overnight anchorage after the rolling around at Monuriki. In the morning we slipped into the seventy five degree water, like bath water, and snorkeled over colorful reefs. There are of plenty of strange shaped, brightly colored fish hiding amongst the corals but any sizable fish for the oven have long ago disappeared from over fishing. We anchorage hopped up to an indentation where the Octopus Resort on Waya Island is located. We spent four nights in that spot.
One day, Matt, from another yacht, Patrick and I went to the village up and over a steep hill, about a 15 minute walk, to give the customary cava offering and sevusevu ceremony to the village chief. We tossed in a National Geographic into the offering. Most younger natives can read the words while the elders like the pictures.
