Rongerik Atoll
29 December 2011 | Marshall Islands
On Rongerik island, there is a concrete rimmed
well which originally served the Japanese coast
watchers then the U.S. meteorologists stationed there.
After a day in Rongelap, it became apparent that we needed to get to an internet to take care of some business. The wind was out of the east. We made a run for it. It was all of a sudden blowing hard. The seasonal south east trades were filling in. The Monitor self steering kept us close hauled for two days allowing us to make it in one tack to Kwajalein atoll. We anchored in front of Ebeye, the Marshalls second largest city.
