Passage to Noumea (Days 4 & til 1200 Day 5)

20 April 2015 | 2nm E of Recifs D'Entrecasteaux, New Caledonia
Dave
A course change of 20d can make a lot of difference. Suddenly we were flying along. Made about 140nm in the 24 hrs after the course change - not bad with 3rd reef in main and wee no3 jib partly furled! Sun shining and seabirds out. Now that's more like it! Big rolling waves at times. Up the incline, pause at the top for the view, and down the other side. Jack helming at 7+ knots, with a grin plastered all over her face. Well, that's a slight exaggeration, but gosh she's done well. Got her sea legs well & truly, and doing everything cheerfully & well. I've also enjoyed my daily scheds with Jeremy on 'Nalukai'. Two heads are better than one, as they say, especially when Jeremy's one goes in for more meticulous research than my one does. We are now on the lee side of the reefs that thrust out from the northern point of New Caledonia for nearly 150nm. Still got a fresh breeze, but no more big seas and the squalls have gone. Winds should abate a bit soon too. So things aboard Brigadoon a bit more cheerful than they were a couple of days ago. Looking forward to those baguettes. Still 350 miles away, but can almost smell them.

Instead of going through the Dumuran passage, like last time through the pearl farms. We decided to head around the island. Friendly place
