Cape Brett is a rather more spectacular first sight of Enzed than touching down in Sth Auckland. Crew up early looking at landscape, waves and seabirds. Hot diggetty. Relaxed mood of yesterday continued. Ray & I chatting away about every subject under the sun. He does rabbit on, Uncle Ray, but knowledgeable chappie and heaps of interesting stories. Making great progress towards Auckles. But Xanthe down below playing games on her phone and looking a bit bored, so I say "Shall we put that spinnaker up Xanthe?" and her eyes light up like a true sailor. Spinnaker hauled out, cobwebs blown off it, sheets found and away we went. Xanthe very confident and leading the whole process. But the spinnaker halyard pulls out from bottom of mast, pressure on the sail, and Xanthe's thumb goes into the block (pulley). Shit! Shit! Shit! It had been a tough trip, but entirely without stuff ups, and then on the home run we have a disaster. Xanthe in a great deal of pain, and thumb not looking good. Shit! But she's a tough wee number, and a chatty one, and Ray and I were relieved to look in at Jackie & her 20 - 30 minutes later, and both characteristics in evidence. Jack & her having a laugh. We're currently diverting to Marsden Pt to clear in and unload Xanthe. She's in remarkably good humour, but the thumb needs attention. Let's just hope it's not too serious. We're hoping that the rest of us will get cleared promptly too, and continue on our way for Bayswater (E46) tomorrow. Damn! Apart from the wet & the cold, and having our britches blown inside out, it had all gone so well. Fingers crossed.
