Dolphin Escort
01 November 2009 | Anchored at Camp Lejeune
Rich
An hour after we left Oriental this morning the weather shifted from 75 degrees, hazy and calm to 60 degrees with 20 knot NE winds and black clouds as a predicted cold front passed through. We added several layers of clothing to our initial barefoot and shorts attire. We were also aided by the several GPS devices, Digital Radar, Sirius weather radio and AIS system that Rich had spent the summer installing. In addition we had a dolphin escort for several miles as seen in the picture. We anchored at 4 pm in a very protected anchorage along the Intracoastal on the edge of the Camp Lejuene Marine Base. We were a bit leery when we passed the sign with a light that flashes when live fire exercises are in progress. The light was off and there are several tall sailboats surrounding us for protection so we are staying for the night.
