Back in the ICW
03 April 2010 | Wabasso Island , FL
We began the day by returning to the Atlantic at Palm Beach and stayed outside for almost 50 miles until we reached Fort Pierce where we entered the ICW for the first time since we left Key West. Since leaving Key West we have traveled about 250 nautical miles on the open ocean. The day started out with a bit choppier seas than we expected - about 4 foot waves from the East - but gradually subsided until we came inside at 3 PM. We are anchored for the night alongside the bridge to Wabasso Island, about 20 miles North of Fort Pierce on the waterway. Rumor is that Wabasso's original settlers were from Ossabaw, Georgia and reversed the name and as the cruising guide noted, its good they weren't from Cincinnati.
