Spring is Here
11 April 2010 | Savannah, GA
Our day as tourists started with a three block walk to a city bus stop where we caught a bus to a stop a few blocks from the south end of Forsyth Park, the beginning of the historic district. We were welcomed by a beautiful array of azaleas, fountains and monuments with historical markers that make up the many squares in the park. From the information center and museum, where we watched an 18 minute film of the history of Savannah and took a quick pass through the museum, we went on a tourist trolley so that by the time we got to the river front we had seen a lot more than we could have managed by walking. The river front was busy with shops and restaurants. We had lunch at the Cotton Exchange and then got back on the trolley for a short ride to the city market where we ventured in to some galleries that were pretty disappointing. As we slowly walked back through the park were able to look at the stately homes that had been noted on the trolley tour. All in all a brilliant day.
