Another Great Anchorage

Sunday morning was clear and bright so after buying a Sunday NY Times we headed to Winter Harbor, an inlet on the East side of Vinalhaven Island that was recommended to us by the ferry Captain on our trip to Monhegan. It was a beautiful spot – a narrow harbor about a mile long, sparsely populated and surrounded by tall cliffs and pine trees as well as many small islands. We had a great time exploring the area in our dinghy as well as just sitting on Brilliant and reading our Sunday paper. On the way back to Camden on Monday afternoon, we were boarded by the Coast Guard for a safety inspection. It wasn’t immediately apparent when they were speeding up behind us that they actually wanted to come aboard although the flashing red lights should have been a tipoff. They were very friendly, no discrepancies found and we are now in the Coast Guard’s data bank as having been inspected.
