A Working Waterfront

We finally left Kittery this morning on a calm and overcast, but clearing, day. We moored in Gloucester harbor in mid-afternoon and Hildy spent a relaxing afternoon on Brilliant while I explored the harbor in the dinghy and then a bit of the town on foot. Gloucester has a long history (starting in 1623) as a working seaport and still has a sizable fishing fleet. The monument overlooking the outer harbor is to commemorate the over 3400 Gloucester fisherman lost at sea since then, including those portrayed in “The Perfect Storm”.
