A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood
13 July 2013 | Newburyport, MA
A hazy, calm and mild day was a welcome change. We decided midway through the morning to turn in to Newburyport, MA, mostly because we had never been there. We moored on a town mooring just off a long boardwalk on the Merrimac River which runs through the town and enjoyed a leisurely afternoon exploring the town, its Maritime Museum and drinks and calamari at a riverside restaurant. The stone building at the left of the picture is the Museum (more impressive on the inside), designed in 1835 as a Custom House by Robert Mills, who designed the US Treasury building and was a native of Charleston, SC.
