Cruising
16 June 2014 | Burnt Island, ME
Rich
We drove back to Providence on June 1st with Beth and Jared who came up for the weekend. We had gone to see Rich’s sister, Andrea, playing the lead role in August: Osage County in an excellent production the night before while Jared spent the evening with his cousins. On June 11th we drove our car back to Rockland and have been enjoying being able to walk to restaurants and the wonderful Strand Theater, despite a few days of unusually cool and rainy weather. This morning we got underway under clear skies and calm seas for some cruising around Penobscot Bay. We anchored off Burnt Island, which is a Maine State Park at the eastern end of the Fox Island Thoroughfare that runs between North Haven and Vinal Haven Islands. The island is surrounded by other rocky, pine covered islands, has a manicured hiking trail around the perimeter and several stony, almost sandy, beaches – a beautiful place to spend the day and an overnight and early enough in the season for us to be the only ones there.
