We left Castine shortly after noon in continuing great weather and transited the waters of Eggomoggin Reach along the coast of Deer Isle to arrive at Little Cranberry Island in time to line up for the doors opening for Jazz night at the Dock restaurant. Great music (band was from Brooklyn) and great people watching (Martha Stuart at the bar, and Ashley Bryan, the resident artist whose exhibit we had come to see at another table). Yesterday we viewed Ashley's exhibit, a retrospective of his life's work in the island museum. He was there and willing to chat with us (see picture). He is 91 and has lived here for the past 40 years and is still painting daily when he is not travelling. We've stayed for an extra two days to wait out fog and heavy rain on our free town mooring and tomorrow will start a slow trip back to Rockland.
