As we rounded the lee of Roque Island after the fog lifted shortly before noon we realized how fortunate we had been to stay on the North side of the island overnight. The swells coming at us from the Southwest were four to five feet and opposed by a Northwest wind that had blown the fog away. Fortunately we were headed for Mistake Island Harbor just a few miles away and totally protected from the ocean by a string of small, beautiful granite islands. From the calm anchorage we could hear and see the surf breaking on the rocks only a few hundred yards away. We were able to walk on Mistake Island in the morning to Moose Point Lighthouse via a convenient Coast Guard landing ramp and boardwalk.
