Breaking out

Waiting for the winds to subside became a long term project. Gale warnings lasted for two days, followed by small craft warnings as northwest winds dropped to only a steady 20 mph by today. After the first day the skies were clear and we were able to enjoy our time, meeting Maura and Troy, the daughter and grandson of longtime Navy friends, as well as other boaters from both the US and Canada also waiting to go further south. We finally ventured out just before noon today. The first two hours were the most exciting with waves breaking over the top of our bridge. The winds were about 20 mph directly on the bow for most of the trip up the Delaware Bay but the waves subsided somewhat as we proceeded into the narrower Delaware River. We docked at the end of the day at the Delaware City Marina just off the entrance to the Delaware Chesapeake Canal. Delaware City is a town of 1500 people centered around its waterfront, a portion of whom we met as we enjoyed a crab dinner at Crabby Dick's Restaurant.
