Snowbirds Moving North

Lindsay and Yolanda left for Charleston on Thursday. Yesterday we did a walking tour of Southport, including two excellent local museums, a great sandwich shop and some small art galleries. After two days of steady winds over 20 mph today dawned calm, clear and cool (39 deg. at dawn). We resumed our trip up the Intracoastal and ended up anchoring in Mile Hammock Bay where we had anchored on our trip to Florida a few years ago. It borders Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base so prior to anchoring we had to call and check that no live fire exercises were scheduled. The spring migration of snowbirds seems to be in progress. By 7 pm there are six other boats anchored with us; one other from Maine, two from Rhode Island, one from Maryland and two unknowns.
