Slow ride
18 July 2013 | Sisters Creek, near Jacksonville, Florida
Beverly/partly cloudy and warm

Our anchorage on the ICW just north of the St. Johns River. The cruise ship on the St. Johns River in the background is heading to the Atlantic Ocean.
Today we traveled northward from St. Augustine along the winding ICW through swamps, marshes and forests. Although we motored along pretty slowly due to adverse current we really enjoyed the scenery and wildlife passing by. We saw birds of prey, lots of seabirds, dolphins, and (we think) river otters. There were also some residential areas with beautiful homes but we preferred the natural areas. We only had to get 2 bridges to open, one at the beginning and another at the end. All the rest were 65 ft. tall so we went under them - although there was some current turbulence to deal with. We also crossed the St. Johns River, which has a lot of big ship traffic between Jacksonville and the Atlantic, timing our slow crossing between a tanker and a container ship. We're glad they were pretty far apart! We anchored for the night just past the Sisters Creek bridge in a lovely spot, later realizing we could see ships on the river as they round the bend.
