Fernandina Beach update

24 July 2013
Beverly/thunderstorms every day
Well, we've been here almost a week. Those thunderstorms must like us because they won't go away! They're not constant, or even consistent. One day the storms hung around all day. The rest of the time it's only been 1 per day, but it could be morning, afternoon, or night. Some of them are relatively mild, but there have been winds of 50 mph! With forecasts like that we decided to stay put until the weather improved. Tomorrow is the day we plan to head farther north into Georgia. Hopefully!

Meanwhile, we have enjoyed what Fernandina Beach has to offer, such as good restaurants, interesting history, a nice museum, and...Florida's oldest bar, the Palace Saloon! Built in 1878, it became a saloon in 1903 (and was an ice cream parlor during prohibition). Here I am having a margarita, enjoying the fancy carved bar, the stamped tin ceiling, etc. A fun stop after a walk to the grocery store!
