Governors Harbour from anchorage
We arrived here on the 18th, after a 27 nm trip from Rock Sound. We motorsailed in winds of 15-20, with choppy seas and a game of dodge the crab/lobster pots the last part of the passage. We had read and heard about poor holding in the harbor itself, so initially anchored near Long Point, just south of the town. After dinghying in the next day and seeing 5 boats anchored in the harbor, we decided to move since it's more protected from the predicted winds. The anchor set easily and held through some strong winds on the 20th (and none of the other 9 boats dragged), so apparently the rumors of poor holding are untrue. The only boat we saw having trouble anchoring was a rental boat which exhibited some strange (and unsuccessful) techniques. But even they got it right on the 3rd try. We enjoyed walking around the pretty town, did some shopping, read silly jokes that were spray painted on the roads near the library, and attended a fish fry tonight (lots of people, good food, music). Tomorrow we head north again.
