Ahh...Quiet Cape Haze

05 May 2014 | Cape Haze, Florida
Beverly/warm and sunny
Boca Grande Swing Bridge, from the north. You can see the barges behind it.

During our week in Fort Myers we did some cleaning, refueled, topped off the water, provisioned, and had some great pizza at Matanzas Inn's restaurant. We highly recommend it: the mooring field is well spaced, the staff is friendly and efficient, and the dinghy dock is nice (plus convenient to the trolley stop and to all the tourist shops and restaurants in the area). We are now in Cape Haze after a slow 41 mile trip with lots of current against us. There was only 1 bridge to open, Boca Grande swing bridge. The approach from the south was somewhat daunting, with construction barges and pilings looking like they blocked it. Turns out only one side was open to traffic, but we were the only ones there, so no problem. Our anchorage here is just off the waterway, but it's very calm and quiet, with only one other boat anchored here.
