Another Long Day
11 October 2015 | Houma, LA
Beverly/mostly cloudy and cooler, clearing in the afternoon
We passed 3 of these (we call them portable fish camps) on the ICW yesterday, plus a similar little shack. They're powered by small boats lashed on to them. One of them even went through the Bayou Boeuf Locks ahead of us.
Yesterday was supposed to be a 43 mile day. Instead it became a 66 mile (60.8 nm) day. The bad part: our next anchorage didn't pan out - it was too shallow (are you seeing a trend?). So we pushed on to Houma. The good part: we averaged 6 mph so were able to make the trip in 11 hours, arriving at the dock at sunset, all tied up and relaxing with an adult beverage (our end-of-day reward) by 7 pm. Along the way we dodged more water hyacinths, saw more eagles, and enjoyed the scenery. We're spending an extra day here in Houma to rest, update the blog, clean, and do some boat maintenance.
