Barrier Island to Barrier Island

Sunset at Dauphin Island
We left Ship Island this morning in almost flat calm seas. There was very little wind all day so the waters of the Mississippi Sound were calm all day too. We only saw a couple of barges and a few pleasure boats. We saw lots of dolphins though. They rode our bow, swam all around hunting, and sometimes jumped clear out of the water like Flipper! Of course, they don't do anything on cue so no pictures. We also saw a ray floating on the water and hundreds of big jellyfish. In places the jellyfish were so thick we could look behind the boat and see a steady stream of them tumbling in our wake. Ralph kept worrying they would clog up our water intake but thankfully that didn't happen. We arrived at our anchorage at Dauphin Island, 48 nm, in only 8 1/2 hours (from anchor up to anchor down). That's pretty fast for a boat with only a 20 hp engine.
