Bruadar

Vessel Make/Model: Beneteau Oceanis 373
Hailing Port: Liverpool
Crew: Mike & Cathie Hall
About: In 2009 we both turned 50 years of age and embarked on our dream of sailing the Mediterranean. We worked our way from Skiathos, Greece and after a few adventures settled in Marmaris, Turkey before moving to a new marina in Cyprus.
Extra: Our original plans to sail to Spain have changed for numerous reasons and despite having had some wonderful adventures and met some great people we're now going to have to sell our boat and with a bit of luck continue our journeys by road, but thats a good few months away yet

End of an Era

Sadly life has changed forever, Cathie finally lost her fight against cancer on Christmas Day 2012. She'd fought hard but just couldn't beat it this time. To say she will be sadly missed is a massive understatement, the church was packed to the rafters for her funeral so thanks to everyone for their [...]

Quick Visa Run Goes Wrong

We flew back to the UK at the begining of April as our 90 day Turkish visas needed renewing, and crazily it was cheaper jumping on an EasyJet flight to the UK, than getting the ferry over to Rhodes.

Cappadocia

Regular mini bus tours of Turkey are organised locally in Marmaris and we've taken full advantage of this. The latest trip involved a round trip of around 1500 kilometers to the ancient region in cetral Turkey known as Cappadocia. This is a truely facinating place which has been occupied by man for thousands [...]

Istanbul Boat Show

We managed to escape some of the cold weather in the UK by flying back to Turkey on the 3rd January 2011. Fortunately it was a direct flight from Manchester to Dalaman but the pilot had to abort the landing due to a thunder storm and we spent two hours on the tarmac in Rhodes before successfully getting [...]

End of Another Season

Unfortunately our immediate sailing was cut short when we had to fly back to the UK for the funeral of a close friends daughter. Rachie was only young (24 years old), suffered from diabetes and will be sadly missed, but always fondly remembered. A poem that she wrote for us has pride of place on Bruadar: When [...]

Guest Cruise, Skopea Limani

26 September 2009
Sunny & Hot
We'd sailed down from Marmaris with favourable winds and anchored in Pillored Bay, before moving onto the Town Quay, Gocek. From here we got a taxi to Dallaman Airport to meet Ann & Karl who were joining us for a week. Standing outside the airport with all the holiday reps was initially interesting until they started to get busy and take over.
It was then that we realized that we should have made a sign ourselves "Sailing Holidays In Turkey Extraordinaire" although maybe the acronym wouldn't have attracted the right guests. Of which unfortunately there were a few embarassing examples right in front of us! A drunken mother and teenage daughter who'd slipped out for a fag. Why, oh why, do they have to be scousers?
We learned later surprise, surprise, that they'd been on the same flight as Ann & Karl and had been drinking and mouthing off before they even got on the plane!
Once we'd got both guests safely aboard across the plank (passerelle) we did all the usual touristy bits of browsing the shops etc, had a nice meal and a few drinks, before setting out to do a bit of cruising/sight seeing the next day.
Deep Bay, Tomb Bay, Sarsala Koyu and Fethiye, where we moored at Yacht Plaza and ate a lovely meal that night. We then made our way back across the bay back to Gocek for a last meal before Ann & Karl caught their 2.00 am taxi back to the airport suitably chilled out. Everything had gone swimmingly, Ann had braved the fish and snorkelled and a few dolphins had even paid us a close up visit.
