Pushing NE against the Wind
26 May 2012 | off Coolgra Point NE of Onslow
Tony
We are currently on passage to Weld Island NE of Onslow and progress is good with all sails and engine as we progress to windward in stiff conditions.
Rudi is, as usual trying to catch dinner, so far in one way or another he has been successful. We have had fresh fish every night for the last 5 days. The best was Coral Trout Rudi traded for fresh bread.
At Weld Island we will reconsider our passage plan as it is a difficult push against these strong easterlies and given my timeframe the opportunities to reach and explore the Kimberlies are slipping away. Any way more on that later.
We took on water up Beadon Creek, Onslow. The Harbour controller (and local Radio Operator for Sea Rescue) Macca, enabled us to come up to the service jetty and we were able to raft up to a catamaran. The catamaran is being commissioned for far off places. Its owner built from a Queensland design. Looked impressive. Even more impressive was the owner who helped us alongside and allowed us to borrow his car to get to town and buy provisions. I mean does this kind of friendly helpful event happen at all the ports up north? it seems so!
The picture is of Rudi, clearly in his element on Long Island!
