Did I miss something in the forecast?

We had a very fast passage from Coral Bay to Carnarvon. The forecast talked about 15-20 on Tuesday and then E-NE up to 25 on Wednesday.
Yesterday afternoon the wind got stuck in a groove and moved up to 20-25 knots, gusting higher. Kawan takes this sort of stuff in her stride and revelled in the conditions kicking her heals up at 8-10 knots with one leap at 15 knots. This latter leap brought up from my bunk wondering what was happening to find Rudy putting on his harness to check things out.
After a quick but relatively comfortable downwind run we made Carnarvon leads about an hour before daylight. The sky had darkened yes we could tell) and the winds remained stubbornly in the mid to high 20's. We ran passed the leads not wishing to enter until daylight
An hour later, as we tried to motor back to the leads, the wind got up to 40knots and it started to bucket down and and to top it all the sea state went bananas. We made it in but not without getting soaked, getting worried, and getting aground (if only for the briefest of moments).
All in all though a successful passage. The photo is me in full ocean going garb - and last night I needed it!
