Home Again, Home Again

Motored into home marina June 3 at about 6pm. Our last day had its own challenges. We left Taylor Bayou and were surrounded with a large downfall of rain which restricted our vision. About 10 minutes into this down pour a large tow behind us wanted to pass us. Well, we agreed to turn our boat around [...]

Almost Home

We are anchored at Taylor Bayou outfall again. We spent 3 days here waiting for bad weather to subside at the start of this adventure. We were at Pavel Island near Orange last night and it was a quiet anchorage and no obvious signs of flooding. Pavel Island is just off the Sabine river. We pulled [...]

Houma Louisiana

We are along side the bulkhead of the transient berths at Houma. Very nice folks. We came in with an efficient "to do" list. 1. refill 5 gallon containers (3) , 2. Pump out black tanks, 3. refill water tank, 4. check battery water, check engine strainer due to lots of water hyacinth. The Houma area [...]

On May 22 we made it from Dauphin Island through a big part of Mississippi sound to Cat Island. A weak cold front was due in early in the evening but the forecast was for very light winds. So we anchored on the north side of the island that was in the shape of L laying down. We tried to anchor close [...]

Heading home Pensacola to Galveston

18 May 2016 | Pensacola
Buzz
It is Thursday evening, May 18 and Daryl, Stacy and Colette are heading home. We were able to stay at an extra room at their condo. It was very nice. We took Abundance out for a sail around Pensacola bay. The wind was about 15 knots and we just partially unfurled the jib and were making 4.5-5 knots of speed. That was all the heeling over our females wanted to experience.

We were thinking about heading home starting on Friday but the weather for Friday looks bad so we are planning on Saturday. Our tentative plan is to make daytime runs. Our first run will be to Dauphin Island near Mobile Bay. Our second stay will be near the outlet of the Pearl River. We will anchor near Ship Island depending on the wind. Our third day we will spend the night at a marina near Pass Christian. We are closing in on the intracoastal waterway to New Orleans. Several locks have to be traversed to get through New Orleans and they can be complicated. Marsha called the operator at the Algiers lock and he was very nice and was able to ease her concerns. After New Orleans comes Houma, then Morgan City and then Vermillion Bay. It feels like from Vermillion Bay on it is down hill to Galveston. In reality, it is 4-5 more days to Galveston but we know the area and that is worth a lot.
