The Calypso Yo-Yo
12 March 2014 | Exuma Park Mooring
Sunday morning we received an email from the Caribbean Weather Service alerting us to yet another front heading our way.
"Winter isn't over yet", Chris Parker said as he talked on his 0630 Monday morning SSB broadcast. It seemed that the front scheduled to clobber Pennsylvania Wednesday would impact the central Bahamas, too.
In his morning synopsis, Chris talked about the front, along with troughs and impulses of energy that would re-energize the front as it approached our area.
Ya, ya we have heard this before, but wait, what did he say? The part after unsettled upper level something or other? Did he say there would be wide coverage of squalls with 40-50 knots of wind? Yuk!
If we rushed we could make it to Nassau and could tie up at a marina. Or we could slow down and head back to Cambridge Cay.
Cambridge Cay is were we road out the blow last week. It is a beautiful spot just inside the Exuma Land & Sea Park with excellent protection.
We left Big Majors Spot in the calm before the storm and motor sailed north to Cambridge Cay. There in the "Gin Clear Waters", typical of the Exumas, we picked up the last mooring. This one, usually held in reserve for larger yachts, was available to anyone now since all the other 14 moorings were occupied . We feel pretty secure attached to an 8000 pound concrete block with its 2" nylon painter. However, just to be sure we checked it out!
