Today (Wednesday 20 July) was one the of the most rewarding yet toughest days we’ve had in quite a while. Several months ago Jeff contacted Stuart at Rock Steady Boxing-Glasgow to see if we could visit and attend a session while in Edinburgh
For nearly the past year Jeff has attended Rock Steady Boxing (RSB) sponsored by the Sports Center of Morehead City. When the subject comes up the response is usually one word, “BOXING?!?”
RSB was founded in 2006 by Scott C. Newman, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at age 40. The program is intensely physical yet non-contact and uses a “cross brain” training fitness routine. This aids in slowing the progression of the disease by the re-routing of neuro-pathways in people like Jeff who have the disease.
Stuart, the programs director, is a strong and talented boxer who has been involved in the sport since he was 13. He is also a graduate of the Hatton Academy which focuses on boxing techniques and the Rock Steady Boxing Instructors course.
To get to the gym in Glasgow required two separate trains and walking. In fact Wendy’s pedometer measured 17,700 steps for the day. At about 2,500 steps per mile it’s easy to say that we would walk more than a mile to go to Rock Steady Boxing.
Thank you, Rock Steady Boxing Glasgow!
