A cousin in every port
17 July 2010 | North Haven
One of my cruising friends wags that whenever I'm singlehanding and in need of a good meal, I go ashore and introduce myself to a cousin! I do have a couple cousins here in Maine and they are very hospitable. Tonight was drinks with cousin Elinor, in a grand perch high above the Fox Islands Thorofare, watching the boats going to and fro as the fog crept in to close the day.
J.O. Browns. A more quintessential Maine boatyard you could not find. "A family boatyard since 1888." Some of the sawdust in the woodshop perhaps has been there since then! And the lobsters for sale live in a little wooden dory that has been converted into a tank on the dock. When I was under the mistaken belief that I needed a new starter solenoid, Foy Brown dropped what he was doing and came out to Calypso for a gander. The yard's black lab came out for an inspection too...
(Too bad, our diagnosis that day was another cruel tease.)
