Welcome to North Carolina
14 October 2010 | Elisabeth City, NC
Cloudy, rain, 70s
This morning we made the first lock down at South Mills with several other early birds, including two young men on a 21 ft sloop from New Hampshire. Boy did that get Ryan's juices going!
Our motor down the Pasquotank River was rainy but uneventful. The lead boat, Saga 43 Camelot got to Elizabeth City and scoped it out for several of us following. After hearing at the Visitors Center that Elizabeth City was "booked" we were relieved to find plenty of space. Tied up just before the sky went black and the heavens opened. Rained buckets for a couple hours. Had a wonderful nap with the pitter pat on the coach roof.
The evening wine and cheese hosted by the "Rose Buddies" was a fine time to meet other cruisers. I got to meet the young fellows and another couple with a restored Gulfstar 36. (Note to Santa: A small flask in the shape of a jerry jug is a fine nautical way to transport a tot of rum.)
Ryan and I have had extended conversations of course about his plans to buy a boat and live in Florida for the winter. About price and value and type of boat and when serendipity might strike. It might be happening tonight. Oh to be young and in love.....
