ICW express lane
22 October 2010 | At sea
Sunny, 70s
Underway in the dark but easy to slip out of Cape Lookout. The front came through as predicted in the night and it was blowing 15 knots from the North. We were sailing five minutes later. When we realized that it was not going to strengthen to the forecast 20 plus we eventually had the mizzen staysail and A sail up. A fine day of sailing albeit a bit slower than we had anticipated. We could hear the chatter from the ICW 20 miles away and were quite happy to be on the beeline to Charleston with Sinbad at the helm, and shaving off several days of motoring down the Ditch. Several boats came out of Beaufort and passed us motorsailing, eager to get to Charleston a couple hours sooner. I'm sorry to pass by some of my favorite stretches of the ICW like the Wacamaw River but I'm sure there will another occasion.
Happy Birthday, Christine!
