Rootin' tootin'
25 October 2010 | Tom Point Creek
Warm muggy breezy, perfect for you know what
After backing away from our tight little spot at the City Marina (and managing not to take out one or two of the multi million dollar yachts), we made our way to Tom Point Creek, a cozy narrow little creek just off the ICW, with nary a soul around. If you click on the Google Earth connection to the right, you'll see what I mean. I made dinner and sky began to light up with distant lightning seemingly all around. A wonderful light show for dinner in the cockpit
Then it got a little closer. Ok, you know where this is going. Now it is dark and the flashes are lighting up the marsh like day light. We put our computers and other electronica in the oven, and turned off the main power switch. The rain started in buckets and the first gust heeled us way over. His eyes wide, Ryan giggled his nervous little giggle, as in "WTF"!? And then a couple more gusts. We showed a flashlight off the stern and sure enough you could have reached out and clipped some grass from the bank of the creek. Nothing to do except wait until things calmed down a bit. By then the wind and current had conveniently pushed our bow out to the center of the creek. We motored 100 ft to the approximate center and reset the anchor. The stars and the moon came out. It was flat calm. Calypso's rabbit's foot was looking out for us.
