Of rockets and rocketships
05 November 2010 | New Smyrna Beach
Sunny, chilly, NW 15-25
At Hunt's dealership, his friend Steve Petengill ties up his Hunter's Child, a rocketship of a Hunter sailboat. Calypso was doing her best imitation of a rocket ship today sailing a mile off the beach at 7.5 to 8.5 knots, with bursts to 9.5 in the gusts, surfing down the waves. We did inlet to inlet, 53 miles, in 7 hours, coming in at Ponce de Leon inlet. Hunt referred us to the local TowBoatUS operator Scott who suggested an anchorage right at the end of the inlet. A new contribution for Skipper Bob!
As you may know the space shuttle launch was supposed to go a week ago. With each passing day and delay, our hopes began to rise that we would actually see it. Now unless they delay a month, we will see it on Monday. Now that would be a grand introduction to our visit to the Space Center!
