18 April 2011 | St. Augustine

The cold front swept way the warm and muggies and have brought a refreshing drier sea breeze with a hint of cool in it. Slept under blankets last night for the first time in a long while. Makes one want to sleep in.
We did just a couple hours up to St. Augustine where we will see cousin Hunt and wife Judy tomorrow.
Traipsed around town and went to the Lightner Museum, previously the gilded age, Spanish Renaissance style, Alcazar Hotel built by Henry Flagler. Lightner bought it to house his stuff after the hotel went bust during the Depression. Apparently there was nothing that Lightner didn’t collect. An eclectic and entertaining hour. I guess I needed to be reminded that St. Augustine lays claims to be the oldest town in America. The fort here is approaching 500 years old. With the convenient new mooring field and associated amenities, St. Augustine may rival “Velcro Beach” as a spot to grab cruisers for an extended stay.
