Chemotherapy: 4 of 9

20 August 2014 | Providence Cancer Center - Portland Eastside
Mark / Portlands Best Summer EVER!
Chemotherapy: 4 of 9

Wednesday, 20 August was the date of my fourth Chemo infusion, and it’s now Friday, 22 August, as I write this. I’m very happy to report that this Chemo thing continues to be a “cakewalk”, for me! And, my PSA has just about been cut in half in the past 6 weeks (See PSA 56 post for more detail.) That said, the minor side effects I’ve referred to in the past, mostly continue. But, they really don’t slow me down much. I’m still sailing Yesterday’s Girl, and riding my motorcycle a bit.

There’s been no nausea! I do experience minor fatigue. And, racing up a single flight of stairs leaves me a bit winded. But, that could be a result of the steroids I’m taking: I take 5 mg. of Prednisone twice daily. In addition, I take 4 mg. of Dexamethasone the day before, the day of, and the day after infusions. Finally, I receive an infusion of yet another steroid, moments before every Chemo infusion. The side effects of these combine for considerable increase of appetite and resultant weight gain – no wonder I can’t up the stairs! So much for cancer as replacement for Weight Watchers ….

The good people at the Lucky Duck Foundation have gotten all the bugs out of their accounting systems, and have compiled the numbers for our drive through 31 July. I’m happy to report that a number of generous people have donated $1,730.00. A big, big Thank you to all of you! While an impressive number, it’s well short of our original goal of $10,000. So, we’re keeping the drive going until the end of August.

Please dig into those pockets and make somethin’ happen! Hey, it’s tax deductible!!!

Remember, the proceeds will be going to my pet charity, the Fanconi Anemia Research Fund, via the Lucky Duck Foundation. Please check out this website, and you’ll easily understand why Fanconi has made such an impact me!
