November 1-Day 1
03 November 2013 | Bath, N.C.
As the story has it, Robert and Carl were discussing their bucket lists. Carl mentioned that one of the few things left on his list was to travel the ICW to Florida. Robert said "Come on and go with us".... then Carl asked me......so here we are!
We are up at 5:30 a.m.. Everything is in its place and we depart at 6:00 a.m. It's pitch dark! The SeaQuell is well equiped with the latest instruments. By the time we motor out of the creek and into the Pamlico Sound daylight is breaking.
The head sail goes up and we are motor sailing the rest of the day. The weather is not favorable for off shore sailing, so we will be in the ditch today.
The ICW is fairly quiet today. We pass a fleet of shrimp boats in Hoboken, then out to the Neuse River. Winds are 25-30 knots on the nose. Waves are 4-5 ft.. We are traveling 3 knots at best. It's rough today and we are on the river about 4 hours. We finally are able to get a bite to eat as it calms down in the Adams Creek Canal.
We slip into a beautiful, quiet and protected anchorage on Back Creek for the night. It's only 3p.m., but it's our best option for on the hook before Morehead City. After settling in Robert cooks steaks on the grill and we enjoy after dinner drinks in the cockpit.
It will be another early morning as we try to put some more miles behind us.
