Sailing to Bath
01 November 2015
Thursday October 29
We are up by 7 a.m. and after spending 3 nights in Belhaven, we are ready to get moving! After breakfast, we move from our slip to the fuel dock. After topping off and pumping out, we leave the fuel dock at 9:15 and fall in behind Nemo. What a difference a day makes! It is a gorgeous day. The sun is shining and the winds are 10-15 out of the southwest. Sails are up and engine is off! Bay Breezin' really likes at least 15 knots. We have a very enjoyable sail with Nemo. There are lots of seagulls and commorants floating on the Pamlico. We arrive in Bath at 1:45 p.m. We spot SeaQuell on the dock. Robert and Becky come out to take our lines on the dock next door. Nemo continues on to the town dock. We are all within walking distance. After everyone is tied up, Connie and Rick stopped by to welcome us. After everyone settles in, we head back to Nemo on the golf cart for a sundowner. Then, Judy and Don ride with us to Blackbeards for pizza.
We are happy to be in Bath again.
Friday October 30
Connie took Becky, Judy and I to Washington to buy provisions. I said that I didn't need much, but I end up with 8 bags full and a new anchor! We stopped by West Marine and they had the Rocna anchor that we wanted. Hopefully there will be no more dragging anchor! I got the prize for spending the most on that shopping trip! Carl and Don spent part of the day working on electronics and the girls spent the afternoon helping Connie add more decorations to their front yard. Their street is having a decorating contest this year. The neighbors are serious about it. Not a car passes by that doesn't stop to see what we are doing and make comments. Connie is saving the biggest additions until tomorrow. Their front yard is beginning to look like a cemetery. We finish for the day just in time to go put on our costumes and head to a party down the street. This is Don and Judy's first Halloween in Bath. Like we did our first year, they dressed as cruisers. Becky is a witch, Robert is Wilson from from the 90's t.v. show "Home Improvement". Carl is a pirate and I am a pirate wench. Everyone we see walking down the street is in costume. The house is a beautiful, old B&B full of antiques. The perfect house for a Halloween party. Everyone is dressed in such elaborate costumes that people don't recognize one another. The house is beautifully decorated with haunting touches of cobwebs in the chandeliers, drapped lamp shades, many lit candles and mice on the tables. The lady of the house is a witch. She has two big pots of Brunswick stew on the old cast iron stove. Everyone contributed dishes and desserts. They served bloody marys and bloody brain shots. We enjoyed the sunset from the back porch overlooking the pool and waterfront. The people of Bath sure know how to have a good time!
This is our last day here. We have a leisurely breakfast. Just a few projects on the list today. The day seemed to just fly by. Before we know it, it is time to dress up again! We head over to Connie and Rick's house in costume. Connie has dinner for us. Of course, we have to go across the street and have a bowl of chilli at Teeny and Jane's. We visited for a while with John and Jackie, whose dock we are staying on. The children started coming out before dinner. It seemed like there might be a record number this year. All of the decorations are great and the childrens costumes are precious. We all took turns giving out candy. Robert and Becky's grandchildren are here again this year. We all had a great time. Best Halloween ever!!
