Sailing to the Eastern Shore
24 October 2018
Tuesday October 23
After a good hot breakfast of oatmeal with cinnamon, raisins and walnuts,we prepared for departure. I untied Nemo’s lines and off they went. We weighed anchor at 8:30 a.m.. It was not as cold as yesterday morning, but still chilly, in the low 40’s. It was another crystal clear, sunny day. We have decided to visit Cape Charles. The wind is right for sailing today! We motored out of Jackson Creek and turned into the wind to put our sails out. The winds are SW at 10-15. We turned the engine off and enjoyed our sail across the Chesapeake Bay. We furled our sails before entering the channel at Cape Charles town marina. We saw S/V Monarch at the dock as we arrived at our slip a little before 2 p.m.. After registering Bay Breezin’ and Nemo, we all walked to Kelly’s Pub for a late lunch. It is a cute Irish Pub and the food was good. The guys had corned beef and Judy and I had the crab soup. Yummy! Then we took a long walk around town and to the historic district. The homes were beautiful. Victorian, Queen Anne, Craftsman, Sears and Roebuck catalog houses and the “Sea Cottages”. The historic homes are situated around a park square. Many of the houses are rentals and B&B’s. The population is only about 1,000 people. We stopped by to see Diane, Grant and Ed on Monarch. We enjoyed a beautiful sunset. More exploring planned for tomorrow.
