26 September 2013 | Carolina Beach State Park marina
Beautiful Day! What we thought was going to be a wash-out ended up being one of our most beautiful days yet. We took our time though, enjoying the luxury of shore power, a laundry, shower and some friends who came for dinner with chinese take-out. Yum! Thanks Frank and Gail!
We were underway by noon and made quick passage through Snow's Cut, to discover my new favorite marina at Carolina Beach State Park. The facility here is 2years old and state of the art floating docks with all the same facilities as the yacht club but a whole lot cheaper plus having access to trails and a well protected basin.
We hadn't been here long enough to tie up when a field trip of kids came scampering along the seawall with their crab fishing poles. They all wanted to pet the sweet seadog and tell us about their adventure. The state parks are celebrating, "Take a Kid Outside" week! Hmmm right up my alley, but Kelly Belle and I had an adventure of our own: Venus Flytrap Hunting!
Alas we were not successful, but we did find a spectacular Purple Pitcher Plant.
I spoke with the Superintendent of the park and he gave me some tips on finding them. For now, we're exhausted and ready to retire in our new found paradise marina!
