Wow, I didn't realize how long it had been since I last updated....
Guadeloupe was a beautiful French island, but the French islands are all pretty much alike. Very pretty, lots of colors, very clean, lots of lovely plants and very expensive.
Dominica...
Our favorite place yet... We did not want to leave, but we have to get going so we can be out of the hurricane belt by the season.
While in Dominica, we took a boat ride up Indian River where the thick forest had made a canopy over the river. Once up aways, Alexis, our guide took us on a nature hike and taught us about many of the trees and plants. The sounds of all of the birds was just so cool to hear...
Alexis also took us on a hike through a rainforest that was so magical, it didn't seem real. We saw wild parrots and many types of plants and flowers. We hiked to a waterfall, which just took your breath away, it was so pretty... Again, the birds sang to us the entire hike...
We toured the old Shirley Fort, where some of the fort was undergoing restoration, while other parts of it were just like we were the first people to see the ruins.
Along the way of our hikes we ate mangoes, sweet oranges, grapefruit, bananas, sugarcane, cocoa, mandarine oranges, soursop and picked up some of each to take home with us. We also brought home a pumpkin, coconut, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger root & ginger leaves, tomatoes, green peppers, basil, lemon grass and passion fruit...
We are now in Grenada. It too, is absolutely gorgeous...
The trees and flowers are so pretty, I don't really know how to describe them. It looks as if anything planted in the ground will grow to unbelievable heights....
Tomorrow, we go on a bus ride into town. Will do some grocery shopping and who knows what treasures are waiting to be found...
