Resolving the alternator

Took dinghy over to Roberts Marine just across the harbor where we met George. He's got a place he's got to be this morning, but he'll bring by the alternator that just happens to be at Ed's feet - literally! - by noon. That works for us as we'll head into town and get more oil so Ed can complete our oil change.
When 12:45 came around and we watched as George got into his boat and headed for town -- not our direction -- our hopes started to diminish. Well, I guess that means this is just as good a time as any to start the oil change. Just after Ed had extracted the old oil, I saw George coming around the channel. Ed jumped on the dock to flag him down, and he came over to us. He's got to try and get a part on a plane within the hour so he's going to have a guy named Jody come by in 10-15 minutes. That gave Ed just enough (OK, almost enough) time to put the new oil in. As he was finishing up, Jody came on board. Ed & he talked and we concluded the alternator does need to be replaced. Jody phoned George and said we come by for it in just a few minutes. So, back to George we go. Got the alternator and Ed changed it out. George said he'd come by to settle up and make sure we didn't have any problem.
As I started the engine, Ed confirmed all looked good down below. We had 14 Volts charging and we even got our tach back!
A few minutes before 5 we decided it was time for a dip in the pool and we'll catch up with George tomorrow.
