Last Night Watch off Cape Hatteras
25 May 2016
Joe Venema
Good Morning, It is 12:30 AM here in the warm Gulf Stream waters off Cape Hatteras. The stars were out in force earlier but then the moon came up about 10:30 PM and dominated the skies. We have had a nice sail up from Charleston. We left Monday morning and plan to be in Norfolk sometime late afternoon today, Wednesday.
This will probably be my last night watch aboard Caris, They have been a special time for me to enjoy the experiece of sailing with all it's joys and occasional terrors. Night is a special time out on the ocean, Flying along in the pitch dark, keeping a close lookout for other boats, and hoping there is nothing out there you can't see keeps me mostly happy.
We can see the Hatteras lights now in the distance and soon will turn more North to head along the Outer Banks of North Carolina toward Norfolk. We will anchor there tonight and then sail up the Chesapeake to Annapolis. We plan to arrive Friday at Chesapeake Harbor Marina where Caris will be positioned until she sells.
Best, Joe Venema
