Whale Sharks

Mia culpa - I forgot to mention swimming with the whale sharks. La Paz harbour is blessed with these giant beasts that feed on plankton right in the harbour. You must go with a guide so I joined a group that was leaving from my marina. Two other coupes who had come down from La Ventana were with the guide and captain and off we went. 15 minutes later we spotted our first. The guide and 3 of us jumped in ahead of the shark. Once oriented, you swim ahead of the shark and let them catch up. I swam beside it long enough to get a complete view of the beaut along with some trailing underside fish, giant, placid eyes. It was about 20' long and a real delight to be that close to the largest fish in the world. After about 5 minutes, we got back onto the boat and the next group went. This was repeated several times with different sharks until we had had our fill. On the way back we spotted 2 humpbacks and circled back to get a closer look. A perfect way to spend a morning.
