Introduction

16 June 2013

Cascadia is sailing to San Francisco where it will be located until the middle of September when it will return to Seattle. The ostensible purpose is to have Cascadia in San Francisco during the America’s Cup races.

The America’s Cup races are held every four years at a location selected by the winner of the prior races, which was Larry Ellison of Oracle in 2010 in Valencia, Spain. We have several connections with the America’s Cup races, including our captain, Erik Soper who was a key member of the team of the a prior winner, America3 owned by Bill Koch. In addition, one of the young sailors who worked throughout the construction of Cascadia where he learned many applicable skills, such as carbon fiber construction, went on to join the Oracle team to help construct of their boats in Anacortes, WA, and has continued working for their current campaign.
