Down from the Mountain
03 November 2021 | Interstate 70 Colorado

Today we drove Interstate 70 from Green River, UT through Denver. What an amazing drive! The weather cooperated fully!! Thankfully. It was 45 degrees in UT in the morning and it was 60 degrees in Denver. But, at the higher altitude (11,000 plus feet in two places) it was just above freezing. At the top, at the Continental Divide, snow was on the sides of the road and the pavement a bit wet. No ice.
They certainly spared no expense building this road. The road follows the Colorado River from the west. In Glenwood Springs, the passage is narrow and in places the road is a bridge above the River. There are two tunnels - one for eastbound and the other westbound. To make it worse, there were mudslides being cleaned up. At the top is a long tunnel called the Eisenhower Tunnel.
