We have been working all summer to get Catharpin Blue "ship shape - assessing and fixing the damage after a lightning strike that happened in Mill Creek, Annapolis.. Almost all electronics were hit. The hull was "singed" in many places. The rudder was also singed. The skeg was blown loose. We took her to Jabins in Annapolis and she has been on the hard all summer. Miles and Anne Poor (who we met on the Caribbean 1500) have been VERY helpful in getting her systems back in working order. On Tuesday - Oct 23 - she was re-launched.

We had to replace the refrigerator, power monitoring system, battery charger, flow monitoring system, windlass electronics a, radios and navigation equipment. Raymarine was the only vendor that did not replace the gear with new units. We have our old chart plotter back and a different (equivalent (used)) radar unit. We had to have the hull tested. The rudder was re-made at the factory and reattached with a strong connection to the skeg.

We lost all our sailing again this summer.

We still need to check her out. We would love to be going back to the Caribvean, but that will have to wait a year.

Sometime around the 4th of July we were hit by lightning in Mill Creek. There were 4 boats on the dock and all were hit. Catharpin Blue appears to have the most damage. It looks like the summer (and fall) will be spent sorting things out. Miles Poor, from the 1500, is helping us. The boat is now on the hard at Jabins yard and is in the process of being surveyed. There appears to be scorching on the hull as well as damage to almost all of the electronics.

In the picture note that the wind indicator from the top of the mast fell down and made a hole in the canvas -- certainly not the worst of the damage -- but indicative of the severity. It seems like Indians were taking a shot at us.

When arriving home from the Caribbean in May 2007, Catharpin Blue docked in Mill Creek, Annapolis. It is a beautiful location -- a true "hurricane hole".
