Visit with the Grandsons
20 February 2017 | Aunt Pats Bay, Elbow Cay, Abaco, Bahamas
Doug
We visited our grandsons, Cal and Garrett (and of course our daughter Kate Carter and son-in-law Erik) in Manhattan from February 3 to 14th.
We left the boat at Harbour View Marina in Marsh Harbour on Grand Bahama Island for the duration of our trip and a few days after.
While in NY we attended all the kid’s activities including swim lessons! Cal has swim twice a week and Garrett started the week before we arrived with one session. The boys both love the water, just like their Poppop!. I was blessed to participate in the lessons with the boys. Cal loves to jump in from the pool edge or from the swim island; often not waiting for the count-down (1, 2, 3, jump!). I had to be on alert at all times. He really loved the floating platform where he climbs out on one end and runs the length of the platform to jump in! At four months Garrett is a natural in the water clamping his eyes and mouth shut every time I put his head under water and has started kicking his legs as I move him through the water.
We also had a dose of winter weather as it snowed one day (see photo). Cal played in the snow on Mommy’s balcony.
There is a fire station next to their apartment and Cal runs to the window every time the fire truck leaves or returns. One day we were walking back to the apartment and the station door was open The firemen invited Cal to sit in the driver’s seat of the fire truck and turned on the flashing lights for him. He LOVED it!. The fireman said he would now have to really keep his eyes on Cal because Cal watched exactly how to turn those lights on! The firemen also offered Cal a summer job because he is a “chick magnet”.
We returned to the warm Bahamas on Valentine’s day, stayed in the marina for a few days, attended an uplifting church service in Man-O-War, and are now back at Aunt Pat’s bay.
